Media Advisory: Photo/story opportunities for news media at southern Minnesota energy tour
WHO: Great River Energy, a generation and transmission cooperative headquartered in Maple Grove, Minn., and its 28 electric cooperative members.
WHAT: Journalists and photo crews are invited to tour and photograph a wind farm and natural gas-fueled peaking facility. Take a first-hand look at the wind turbines and plant while nearly 200 electric cooperative members from across the state of Minnesota tour the site throughout the day. The 100-megawatt (MW) Prairie Star Wind Farm in Mower County, Minn., generates enough electricity to power approximately 30,000 Minnesota homes. The wind farm consists of 61 1.65-MW wind turbines. Pleasant Valley Station generates more than 400 MW of power for times of peak energy use.
