Larry Schmid named CFO of Great River Energy
Elk River, MN (April 11, 2002) - Great River Energy has named Larry Schmid its Chief Financial Officer (CFO) effective immediately.
Schmid replaces Ron Larson who became CEO of Split Rock Energy on April 1. Split Rock Energy is the wholesale power supply alliance formed by Great River Energy and Minnesota Power.
Schmid has served as manager of financial services for Great River Energy since January, 1999. He joined Great River Energy in 1978 as a budget analyst. His subsequent positions with the electric generation and transmission cooperative showed increasing responsibility in the finance area, including manager of accounting, and director of finance and administration.
“Because of Larry’s long career with cooperatives, he understands our unique business structure and financial needs,” said CEO Jim Van Epps. “I believe that under his leadership, Great River Energy’s financial strength will continue to grow.”
Schmid earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from St. Thomas College (now the University of St. Thomas) and his master’s degree in management from Central Michigan University. He served six years’ active duty in the Air Force and 16 years in the Minnesota Air Guard. During his military career he held several positions in logistics management He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel.
