Utilities Announce Electric Transmission Planning Public Meeting

Elk River, MN (June 3, 2003) - Public meetings will be held on June 10 at the American Legion Hall in Pipestone to discuss electric transmission planning for the southwestern part of Minnesota. The meetings will be at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Hall is located at 117 Hiawatha Avenue South—the address was incorrect in ads run in local newspapers. A summary of public comments from the meetings will be included in a Biennial State Transmission Plan the state’s utilities will submit to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission on November 1, 2003.

At the meeting, area utilities will identify problems with the existing transmission system in meeting growing electrical needs in the area and possible solutions including possible new transmission projects that may require new right-of-way. In addition, the utilities will make a presentation on how the high voltage transmission system is planned and managed to ensure reliable electrical service to customers in this area and throughout Minnesota.

Utilities participating in the meeting are Alliant Energy, East River Electric Cooperative, Great River Energy, L&O Power Cooperative, Missouri River Energy Services, Otter Tail Power Company, Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency and Xcel Energy.
