Every time you plug in your toaster, television or other electrical device, a system of power lines goes to work to bring you the power you need.

Our job at Great River Energy is to keep the lights on by providing a safe, reliable supply of electricity to our 28 member cooperatives.

Today’s electric system is a complex, interconnected network of power lines and substations which brings electricity from power plants to you.

Great River Energy’s transmission system includes 4,500 miles of power lines and 102 substations.

We continuously monitor the transmission system and work with other utilities on studies and long-range plans for regional and local transmission needs.

Great River Energy is a member-owner of ACES Power Marketing, a national energy risk management and trading services company.

Who decides when to build a transmission line? What can landowners expect? How big are the poles? Is the environment considered? How can I get involved?

You can live, work and play safely around power lines as long as you treat them with caution and respect. Our lines are built and maintained to NESC and NERC standards.
